Canine Babesia is a blood protozoal disease transmitted by Ixodes ticks, mainly manifested by high fever, jaundice, and difficulty breathing. In some dogs, the spleen is enlarged and sensitive to touch. Urine contains protein and occasionally hemoglobin. Babesia gibsoni disease often progresses chronically, with fever only at the beginning of the disease or intermittent fever. The sick dog is highly anemic, but there is no jaundice. Although he has a good appetite, he is highly lean, and his urine contains protein or a trace amount of hemoglobin. Sick dogs often die of exhaustion.
